Many thanks to Marcelo Padua who acted as our guide during our visit to Emas. Marcelo pulled out all the stops for us even working through the Christmas period leaving his wife in Cuiaba!
Marcelo knows the park very well and we were able to see Cone-billed Tanager within the first hour in the park! Over the next five days we got superb views of most of the specialities including White-winged Nightjar, Ocellated Crake, Lesser Nothura (a real tough one), Planalto Foliage-gleaner - we got close to calling Giant Snipe but didn't try to hard having seen them the previous week elsewhere.
Marcelo guides over most of Mato Grosso inc the Pantanal (his main area), Cristalino and Roosevelt Lodge and I would thoroughly recommend his services.

I travelled to Pantanal and Chapada dos Guimaraes with my wife and my 4 children ( 8 to 13 years old) in April 2007 with Marcelo Padua as our guide. I am an avid birder but the rest of my family is not eager to wake up at dawn or to hike overheated trails just to add a new bird to their list. Marcelo managed to keep everybody happy by blending skillfully intensive birding periods with myself and more relaxed moments during which the entire family was enjoying nature (birds, but also other animals, plants and landscapes…). Transportation, accomodations, and circuits were all superbly arranged by Marcelo, leaving us with absolutely no worries, except seeing as much wildlife as we could. I must say that this was the key to the success of this family trip ! Regarding birds, we were able to observe a very large panel of the local species including many endemics. Highlight of the trip: a magnificent observation of an ocelot that everyone will remember forever !
